Learn about Hoame and Co-Founders Carolyn Plater & Stephanie Kersta
The roots of Hoame run deep. Over a decade ago founders Carolyn Plater and Stephanie Kersta began sowing the seeds of what would eventually grow into Hoame.
Both founders studied psychology in university and went on to postgraduate training in mental health and addictions. When they first met they quickly realized they shared an uncanny similar passion for helping others. They both followed this passion into continuing education. Carolyn pursued her masters in social work and Stephanie her masters in psychology. Ever the eternal students their thirst for knowledge had them also obtaining numerous other credentials along the way.
Professionally, they both worked clinical roles in a variety of hospital, academic and community settings. Carolyn worked primarily as an emergency room psychiatric clinician and Stephanie worked in community mental health both at the ground and policy levels. They also both went on to accept several faculty teaching appointments and felt most at home in a lecture hall with their students.
Despite their individual achievements they knew they could accomplish much more together. They officially decided to join forces and began teaching mental health and wellness workshops to public and corporate clients alike. They also launched a private clinical psychotherapy practice – with Carolyn focusing on children and adolescents and Stephanie focusing on young adults.
Over the years Carolyn and Stephanie became increasingly concerned by the growing mental health crisis plaguing society. They also realized that much of what they were seeing clinically was a direct result of today’s modern stress-filled lifestyle. Their desire to combat this epidemic led them to the study of mindfulness and meditation. They obtained the relevant certifications and started weaving these powerful philosophies and teachings into their personal and professional lives.
It was here that the idea of Hoame really began to blossom into what it is today. Hoame represents a shift away from the traditional reactionary approaches to health and wellness and a movement towards a modern and preventative approach to wellbeing. With Hoame, Carolyn and Stephanie wish to inspire a lifestyle movement where stress is no longer simply an accepted part of our daily living. A space where taking care of yourself is encouraged and celebrated! Welcome Hoame.
Hoame is truly a hub and haven for all
things health – a place where all of Carolyn and Stephanie’s
years of education and experience so beautifully converge under one roof.
