Every day an average of 10 Canadians a day are lost to suicide. Do you know how to recognize the signs and symptoms that someone is thinking about suicide? Or how to intervene? Unfortunately, most people don’t. Our one day 8-hour certificate course changes that!

Our Skilled Suicide Intervention will teach you to be able to recognize potential signs and symptoms of suicidal ideation, how to ask someone if they are suicidal, and how to successfully intervene with an emphasis on safety.

This virtual certificate course will also explore best practices in suicide interventions, myths and facts about suicide, and teach you how to connect with appropriate resources and supports. We'll close with a focus on mindful self-care for the helper post-intervention.

Do you know what to do if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis? – That’s ok, most people don’t. In fact, most people feel totally unprepared to act. This course changes that! Our course takes a solution-focused and strengths based approach to empower everyone with the important skills and knowledge needed to be an effective first responder.

This one day 8-hour virtual certificate course will provide you with hand’s on and practical solutions to address a number of challenging mental health situations you might encounter with applications in both your personal and professional lives.

This course will teach you how to be a good first responder in a crisis and handle the situation effectively and appropriately until other professional supports are engaged.

You will learn:

- How to recognize and identify signs and symptoms of mental health crisis
- How to connect and provide support to individuals in crisis
- Key verbals statements and step by step actions you can apply in each situation
- How to ensure physical and psychological safety
- Important legal policy and legislation every first responder should know
- How to assist from an anti-oppressive framework free of bias and discrimination
- How to take care of oneself following a crisis
